I was born in Baghdad and lived in various Middle Eastern countries before eventually settling in the UK in 1988. Having grown up in a family context where political activism and faith were the staples of life, I have an acute understanding of the different ways and layers in which faith, politics and religion can interact, and influence one another, and their impact on individuals and society.

Founding member of the Anti-Racism Working Group formed by the women’s sector leading the creation of the Anti-Racism Charter for the Women’s Sector.

One third of The Three Hijabis who created a petition signed by 1.2 million people to ban racists from football in the wake of the racism experienced by Black football players in the Euro2020 finals.
